Monday, January 26, 2009Early Days At Sea
Gradually getting used to life on board the carrot - takes a while to get used to the rough and tumble - always having to hold onto something as well as a general toughening up needed to handle life at sea. I had quite forgotten the myriad pleasures there are to be had rowing across the sea - a sprinkling of blisters, a healthy dose of nausea and a gourmet menu of dehydrated rations! Amongst other delights. Sadly no time for fishing yet...Said yesterday she is well loaded up - no exaggeration - in my sleeping cabin I have to pile everything up so that I can lie down - 2 sacks of food a tool box, survival suit and emergency grab bag takes up the rest! Still at least the sea is fairly calm tonight should be able to get some
Not much sea life around except for birds - lots of Albatrosses and Shearwaters as well as the ubiquitous Storm Petrel>
George and Sophia came over from Blizzard in the dinghy this afternoon to hand over a camera and since they head off tomorrow - will be sad to see them go.
Haven't quite got to grips with this new ocean yet but it is far more forbidding than the Atlantic - no wonder we are in the roaring forties>>>
Not a lot of progress today and the hard won miles I rowed I am now drifting backwards over _ ah bof...doesn't look so much better weather wise for the rest of the week either.
Found the rather brilliant mini ipod Boggis gave me and got through it in one shift rowing - what a beauty though !
